2025 GCC Workshops

We have some great workshops lined up for 2025! 

     Glazes, Stains, & Raku! February 15 & 16

The Georgia Clay Council Presents:

Leather and Clay:

A beautiful Combination 

with Tom Slavicek

September 6 & 7, 2025

​Students will use various techniques and types of leather to integrate with their own clay pieces.

Techniques to be taught can include colorizing leather and accents, using a pyrography tool on leather, decorating clay pots/mugs/bowls with leather accents, wrinkled leather technique, marbled leather coloring technique, and more.

​

Tom will provide individualized instruction for students based on their pieces and goals. Since this workshop is student led based on individual projects, the workshop has a limited number of participant spots. Please register early.

​

Students can also make a leather shoulder bag. Tom has pre-cut and pre-punched bag pieces for you. You will choose the colors and types of leathers you want for the bag, stitch it, and decorate it. 

​

  • All leathers, tools, materials, and instructions are included.

July 25 - 27, 2025

The Georgia Clay Council Presents:

Octopus Sculpting and Sprig Making with Stacy Morgan

In this fun and engaging hands on workshop, Stacy will present her techniques for sculpting octopus and applying them to functional and/or decorative forms.

 

She will demonstrate how to choose the placement and posture of the octopus for functionality and for visual appeal and explain the concepts of flow and composition. Stacy will also share her texturizing and surface decoration techniques, basic preparation of decorative slip for trailing and discuss the most effective means of safely drying, firing, and glazing for maximum impact on the finished pieces.

​

A demonstration on how to create sprig molds made from her original small sculptures will be included.

Saturday, July 26: Day 1

   10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

dinner on Friday.

The dinner and workshop will be held in a member's home studio in Waleska, GA. The address will be provided after registration. If you have any questions, please email us on the contact page or at GAClayCouncil@gmail.com

The Friday dinner is open to all participants, GCC members, and their partners. The dinner is provided by the GCC. Attendees are welcome to bring a beverage of their choice for themselves or to share.

Participants will need to bring their own clay, ware board, basic pottery tools and leather hard piece, and a hair dryer or heat gun is recommended (there will be several to share).

In this workshop you will learn more about how to use glazes, stains, and alternative firing -raku- to elevate the surfaces of your work. 

​

Participants can bring their own bisqued pieces on which to practice the techniques and glazes. Sunday afternoon will include a raku firing. Please bring 3 - 6 pieces, no taller than 8 inches so we accommodate them in the raku kiln. 

​​

Brown bag your lunch on Saturday and Pizza party on Sunday courtesy of the GCC! Snack items and water will be provided throughout the weekend.

​

Location is at Something Southern Studio in Canton. Address provided through email or at registration.
